The Cranberry Islands

The Cranberry Islands lie about two miles offshore of Mount Desert Island. Named for their cranberry bogs, they are home to fifty-five families. Little Cranberry Island was established in 1884 when the residents were tired of having their mail accidentally end up at the Great Cranberry Island post office.

The Islesford Historic Museum, which is part of Acadia National Park, is housed in a Georgian brick and granite building close to the main dock. It contains a collection of nautical memorabilia, documents, tools, charts, photos, and furniture depicting the history of Cranberry Islands.

The museum even had a "dress-up" display:

While we were walking around the island, we found this neat homemade putt-putt course:

After we were done exploring the island, we had some amazing lobster rolls out of a trailer. The woman's husband was a local fisherman, and she sold the end products :)
