Before setting sail, we had to pack the sailboat with supplies for the summer. This included a day-long trip to Costco's, Target, and the local supermarket. Lucky for us, a heat wave made it's way through Maryland, making the 100-degree temperature a fun time to pack the boat. I think we all felt like fainting a few times, and on the positive end, it was a decent workout. We left Jared's parents' house in Pasadena, Maryland on Thursday, June 2nd around noon. Here is a picture of my dad casting off :)
Our sailboat is a 32' Morgan that normally fits 2-4 people comfortably. Add one hairy dog, 6 family members, a bathroom the size of a shoebox, and tons of food and supplies to last Jared and I for the rest of the summer. Needless to say, space was a luxury! We would literally cheer with join when we should find some little nook in the boat that we didn't fit something into. Before Ryan arrived, he called my dad to ask what he should bring; my dad's response was "space." At least the weather was gorgeous :) Morgan, our 2-year-old golden retriever, has never been sailing before. She was a little shaken up the first day, but she absolutely loves the water! I think she was either a little confused or really angry at us for being on a boat all day because she decided to go below deck to do her business. Day 1 = 1 potty cleanup. Not bad. It's a good thing she is cute. The first sailing day was quite intense, and we were sailing about 8.9 knots. We tried to sail to Fairlee Creek, Maryland. After seeing another sailboat hit bottom, we decided to avoid that area and head to Wharton Creek to meet up with Jared's parents. Once we arrived, we rafted up with them and had cocktails and dinner in a small anchorage. It was a great chance to have all our parents together.
