The Kelley Family Learns to Sail

My brother, Ryan, and his girlfriend, Jessica, arrived late Saturday night after the wedding. This was the first time on a sailboat for both of them, and they will be sailing with us from Chesapeake, Maryland to New York City. They even came prepared with new boat shoes, but I somehow managed to cut them off in the photo!

After casting off, Jared realized that the celebration flags (a dressed ship is the technical term, but we'll stay simple on this one) were twisted on the mast. Therefore, Ryan "volunteered" to be raised up the mast to fix them.

Before our first night anchoring in Cohansey River, Maryland, the Kelley family learned many new things about sailing:

1. The fire extinguisher is quite useful when the stove flames become too high.
2. Keep pumping and spraying (in reference to the toilet).
3. Showers, refrigerators, air conditioning, and space are all luxuries.
4. You can never have enough ice (or cold beer).
5. Flies love you.
